What to eat in Jeju Island – Black Pork BBQ

black pig

Black pig is only found in Jeju Island. This is a domestic breed pig which is rather small in size with black skin.  But the meat is to die for.

It was an unexpected trip to Jeju for me, lucky with a little help from my local friend, managed to get an accommodation pretty near the airport. Because Jeju is an island with lots of beautiful nature waiting to explore, taking local buses can take up too much of your time. It is a good idea to rent a car and zoom around to catch all the beautiful landscapes and nature formations at your own time.  Most car rental has counter at the airport arrival hall, but do make sure you have an international driving licence from you country.  Korea car rental company are very strict, they will not process the car rental if you can’t produce an international driving licence. So if you plan to rent a car, get yourself prepared.

We were recommended to a very local BBQ by a local guide serving authentic local black pork bbq. It was excellent and we love it so much that we patronised them 2 times during our stay.

The restaurant ordering is interesting, they order by the weight. Which is not that difficult for us to point to what we wanted to the restaurant owner. And we were told that the restaurant owner actually serve Jeju black wild boar, which is why is popular among the locals.

when the meat is fresh, there is no need for any special seasoning. Sea salt is all you need when bbq the special black pig meat…

What is best to enjoy such delicious delicacies, is to have a good soju with beer (somac)
